We collaborated with a prominent U.S. discount retail enterprise to reinforce its e-commerce foundation and enhance operations across its digital channels. This project reflects RBM’s commitment and ability to support and equip retail enterprises for their digital advancement and deliver consistent customer experiences in high-performing online environments and market shifts.
Big Lots is an American household discount retail chain that is keen on offering branded-name products at affordable prices and making them accessible to all. They will fuse treasure-hunt shopping with close-out deals and offers that cannot be negotiated. This has made them a strong national brand in discount retail.

The company relied on an outdated legacy Oracle ATG commerce ecosystem, with maintenance and continuous technical support oversight. Their system was struggling with load handling, disjointed systems that slowed release cycles, and unreliable third-party integrations during high-traffic hours. This needed expert oversight, strong architecture, and migration support.
The core challenge was to streamline platform operations, strengthen system reliability, and ensure smoother interactions across multiple internal and third-party tools.
The client turned to us to achieve digital transformation, a few of those changes being:
Making the core technology (replacing the old Oracle ATG) more stable and up-to-date to support more load efficiently, and accelerate development.

They selected us as their long-term technology partner because they required a stable team to consolidate and stabilise their large-scale digital e-commerce ecosystem. We soon joined in without incurring any more operational overhead.
Having observed the problems, we developed a specialized e-commerce platform to unify dispersed workflows into a single, trustworthy, automated platform and streamline the overall functioning of their business ecosystem. The new custom tool would have been developed to store their product, pricing, and promotional data centrally, as well as to track deployment flows and performance on their ATG platform.

We then cycle through the solution, making improvements, releasing and testing them in a manageable environment. This was to ensure that the solution would be prepared to address real-world retail operational challenges.

The solution was tested in extreme environments to ensure smooth integration with all third-party tools.

We collaborated with the client during the handoff and oriented their team to operate without supervision, so they may be prepared to leverage the capabilities of the upgrades.
